Richard Kersten grew up in Los Angeles, the son of a professional musician and educator. He graduated from USC with a degree in finance and real estate, and moved to Hawaii in 1972. Richard is a member of the National and Hawaii Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He recently celebrated his thirty-fifth year in the insurance industry, 30 of which were with Northwestern Mutual. His hobbies include golf, flying remote control airplanes and fishing in Mexico and Alaska. His wife, Sandy, balances her time with work as a licensed optician and being involved with community activities. Richard’s youngest son, Harry, is a junior at Pact University in New York City, his daughter, Denise, is a graduate of the University of Hawaii's TIM School, and his eldest son, Chase, is a practicing architect in Honolulu.

Mary Murphy Mattos had been in the insurance business for 19 years before joining Richard as his associate in 1988. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mary first came to Hawaii to attend Chaminade University. She ultimately received her degree in Psychology from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. When she returned to the islands in 1980, she brought with her a wealth of experience in the field of employee benefits. Mary is a Certified Long Term Care Specialist (CLTC) and continues to pursue educational coursework to keep to-to-date in her insurance practices. While in her youth she took flight as an amateur parachutist, she has her feet rooted firmly in her home in Kailua, which she shares with her husband, Frank, a retired Professor in English at the University of Hawaii, where they both enjoy swimming, gardening, and reading.
